Preventing Dryer Fires
According to the National Fire Protection Association, 16,800 washer/dryer fires were reported in the U.S. in 2010.
This resulted in:
- 51 Deaths
- 380 Injuries
- $236,000,000 in property damage
Dryers were responsible for 92% of those fires. The leading cause of dryer fires is failure to clean. In addition to cleaning the lint trap for each load, the NFPA recommends having the dryer vent cleaned once a year. It may need to be cleaned more often. A good indication that the dryer vent needs attention is clothes taking longer than usual to dry.
