Saltillo tile, also known as Mexican tile, Spanish tile and pavers, is a type of terracotta tile that originates in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.
Each tile is hand-made and unique. The material is harvested from natural clay deposits, shaped using frames and then fired. Variables in this process contribute to the unique colors and patterns in each tile.
Saltillo is highly porous and soaks in liquid easily. It also has a tendency to scuff and stain and must be sealed with a high quality surface sealant. To care for your saltillo tile, use a neutral cleaner to damp mop the area. NEVER flood the sealed floor with water.
